This July combo pairs 400 g Mesquite Coffee Alternative with 150 g Drinking Cocoa. Enjoy them separately, or blend them together to make what we call our mesquite mocha.

Mesquite Coffee Alternative already has a roasted, earthy and gently sweet flavour. Add cocoa and the drink becomes smoother, more chocolatey and almost creamy.
It is our answer to a mocha when we want the depth and comfort of a chocolate drink without using coffee as the base. It does not have the dark, sharp edge of a traditional coffee mocha. The flavour is softer, warmer and easy to sip over a long morning.
Mesquite Coffee Alternative is made from roasted mesquite pods rather than coffee beans. It is naturally caffeine-free and gives the drink its roasted base.
Drinking Cocoa brings chocolate depth and naturally contains flavanols and theobromine. Research into flavanol-rich cocoa has found modest benefits for normal blood flow and vascular function. The amount of flavanols varies according to the cocoa and how it was processed, so cocoa is best understood as a naturally complex plant food, not a medicine.
We have not measured the flavanol content of this Drinking Cocoa, and no clinical research has tested this exact mesquite-cocoa combination. What we can say from experience is that the two flavours work beautifully together.

In the morning, it creates a warm roasted ritual without coffee as the base. During the workday, it is easy to prepare in a flask and sip slowly. In the afternoon, it makes a comforting alternative to another cup of coffee.
In the evening, mesquite can be enjoyed on its own. If cocoa or theobromine affects your sleep, use less cocoa or enjoy the combination earlier.
Our mornings have slowly developed their own rhythm.
Lately, the day begins with a cup of Drinking Cocoa while we ease into things, perhaps stretching, reading or simply getting moving. When it is time to sit down and work, we prepare the drink that carries us through the morning.
We brew approximately 28 g of Mesquite Coffee Alternative in a plunger, roughly 14 g per person. Instead of pouring freshly boiled water over it, we leave the kettle open for five to ten minutes so the water can cool slightly.
While the mesquite brews, we add Drinking Cocoa and a little honey to the flask. After about seven minutes, we plunge the mesquite and pour it into the flask.
The result is what we call our mesquite mocha. It is smooth and chocolatey, with roasted mesquite giving the cocoa more depth. This is not a drink we invented for a promotion. It is genuinely how we start our working day.
